This presentation will address ethics in mental health care. Specific topics include an overview of the ethics of virtual care delivery, ethical decision making when referring to a higher level of care (HLOC), and collaboration among HLOC virtual providers and the outpatient treatment team. This session will also explore the ethical dilemmas clinicians may face when integrating AI tools into their practice. Attendees will gain insights into maintaining patient confidentiality, ensuring informed consent, and balancing the benefits of AI with the need for human-centered care. This session will satisfy the Ethics CE requirement while equipping clinicians with the knowledge to navigate AI ethically and effectively in their work.

Mental health professionals seeking to provide trauma-informed, person-centered care will gain an understanding of these important considerations, such as socio-economic status, race, sexual orientation and gender identity, ability/disability status, etc. to expand and incorporate into their approach of treating trauma in individuals from a diverse background. Participants will learn about evidenced-based practices and therapies that are effective in treating trauma in individuals of all backgrounds.

Irene Rovira

PhD

Dr. Rovira is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides evidence-based individual, group, and family treatment for eating disorders on an outpatient basis at Eating Recovery Center, Maryland. Dr. Rovira received an M.A. in developmental psychology from Teacher's College at Columbia University and a Ph.D. in the combined Clinical/School Psychology program from Hofstra University, New York. Dr. Rovira currently heads the training for the post-doctoral fellowship program, supervises mental health counselors and developing psychologists, and coordinates the psychological services provided in the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs at Eating Recovery Center, Maryland.

Jamie grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland with a dual major in Economics and Latin American Studies. Shortly after college, he moved west to San Francisco. While living in California, Jamie worked as an entrepreneur on several digital health startups. Jamie recently returned to the East Coast to be closer to family. He now lives with his wife and Australian Shepherd, Birdie, in Baltimore. Jamie is an avid runner and mountain biker and is learning the mandolin.

He has successfully led key initiatives such as the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 and the adoption of electronic prescribing for controlled substances, ensuring that these transformations meet the needs of end-users. Sanjiv is passionate about enhancing the user experience and works closely with teams to ensure that products not only meet regulatory requirements but also deliver real value to users. His background includes leading implementations that are scalable and user-friendly, ensuring that healthcare providers can focus on what matters most—patient care. Dr. October Boyles is the Chief Clinical Officer at ICANotes. She holds a Doctorate in Nursing Practice and is board certified in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing. Dr. Boyles earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Nursing from Western Governors University. With over 20 years of experience as a Registered Nurse and a deep commitment to mental health and psychiatric nursing, Dr. Boyles combines her clinical expertise and leadership skills to make a meaningful impact in the field of mental health.

Jennifer joined ICANotes in 2019 and is currently the product manager focusing on the ICANotes+ billing platform. Jennifer has nearly 14 years of experience developing and supporting Behavioral Health EHR systems. She has managed and worked in support, implementation, and account management where she quickly learned that the majority of ongoing support and complexities within implementations for Behavioral Health EHR systems centered around Billing, primarily claim submission and payment processing.

Larry Rogers has been with ICANotes for 7 years and is one of our Senior Trainers.  He has over 30 years of experience working in the healthcare industry, including hospitals, nursing homes, and home medical equipment companies.  Larry ventured over into the EHR world in 2000, and has worked for a few different software companies in multiple roles, but found his passion in training and billing.  He graduated from Central Methodist University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  Larry's wife and four daughters are continuing the legacy by all working in healthcare related fields, including nursing, social work, and physical therapy.  He also has two grandsons he is very proud of!

Janina is an experienced Health Information Technology (HIT) professional with over a decade of diverse expertise in the healthcare industry, grounded in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia) area. Her career began in patient care as a surgical technician in ER and urgent care settings, later expanding into pediatrics, internal medicine, radiology, and phlebotomy. She now leverages this broad medical background to support clinicians and staff with HIT solutions, specifically in behavioral health and substance abuse services. For the past 10 years, Janina has been a product expert at ICANotes, where she has successfully implemented HIT systems, driving efficiency and enhancing patient outcomes.
