ICANotes and Meaningful Use Stage 2

ICANotes is immersed in certifying to the Meaningful Use Stage 2 measures for 2014 through Drummond Group Inc., a certifying agency.

This certification process has been broken down into three waves of testing with a Drummond proctor. At the end of all three testing waves, after we have successfullly certified for all 2014 modules, our Drummond test results will be sent to ONC (Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology) for review, final approval and then issuance of the actual ICANotes 2014 Meaningful Use Certification. We then become a 2014 Edition Certified EHR.

The ICANotes 2011/2012 certification is no longer valid except for those few customers who are still in the process of completing their 2013 attestation -- and those customers must submit their data by March 31, 2014

ICANotes customers should not be certifying for Meaningful Use using 2014 data until we become a 2014 Edition Certified EHR. This applies to both Stage 1 and Stage 2.

ICANotes plans to have our software certified and ready for use to meet meaningful use attestation requirements beginning on July 1, 2014.

What are the 2014 timelines for customer attestation for Meaningful Use?

First time attesters - those who have done no previous attestation for Meaningful Use at all must attest as follows:
  • Medicare eligible providers must begin their reporting period with a 2014 Edition Certified EHR by the 3rd quarter of 2014 (which starts July 1, 2014) and submit their attestation ON October 1, NOT after to avoid penalties.
  • For Medicaid eligible providers, their first time is AIU (Adopt, Implement or Upgrade). Providers only need to sign up with a 2014 Edition Certified EHR and can attest that same day.

2nd year of attestation or Eligible Providers attesting to Stage 2 must attest as follows:

  • For Medicare eligible providers, the 2nd year of Stage 1 or Stage 2 can be any 90-day quarter throughout 2014. Attestation must take place by February 28, 2015. Since ICANotes won't be certified before July 1, attestation can only begin on either July 1 or October 1 and extend for 90 days.
  • For Medicaid eligible providers, the 2nd year of Stage 1 or Stage 2 is any 90-day period in 2014. The 2nd year of Stage 1 or Stage 2 needs to show usage of the 2014 Edition Certified EHR. Providers will have until February 28, 2015 to attest.
