Read the Diary and Reviews of an ICANotes EMR Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Customer:
Our organization, Amethyst Place (www.amethystplace.org) exists to provide a safe, supportive home for women in recovery and their children. This environment helps families start a new life by helping them learn and practice new skills. We assist them in preparing for independent living within their community.
Part of our task is to provide counseling services to our clients. Maintaining accurate and organized records for each client is essential to providing a high level of clinical care. Our resources are limited and making the most of our time is very important. That is why we began a search for an EMR that would help in our documentation needs.
We looked at a number of available EMR's, many of which were designed for general medicine and did not adapt well to behavioral health. Our search narrowed down to 3 companies; Epitomax, ICANotes and Therapy Charts. These companies offered a Behavioral Health oriented EMR.
When we compared the 3 we looked for several criteria. First, the software had to fit what we were doing without forcing us to use unnecessary portions of the program. Second, we wanted software that would organize our client's charts in a logical clinical order which could be viewed easily. Third, the clinical work flow had to make sense to us and to follow accepted documentation standards.
While all 3 did satisfy the initial requirement, documentation of behavioral health, from our research ICANotes seems to offer some very specific advantages. ICANotes gives the clinician a great deal of flexibility. It allows the clinician to navigate to various clinical work areas without being forced to unnecessary areas. Customizing is easy and each clinician can create their own customized buttons. With ICANotes typing is limited to unique clinical points. Most of the note can be made with very little typing; just one or two typed sentences are enough to make a highly informative and individualized note. All other text can be generated by pushing buttons.
Once we decide upon our choice we contacted a sales representative. We found the ICANotes company very flexible and willing to work within our budget. At this point in the process we are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to start learning and using the program. More about that in our next diary entry.
