With the recent release of the DSM-5 diagnostic codes, ICANotes wanted to let you know where you can find a few of the diagnoses under the new structure. The DSM-IV codes are still in the system, however, if you need to use them, but here is a list of the most common diagnoses and their new DSM-5 shrub locations:
  • ADHD:  now in Neurodevelopmental Disorders
  • Adjustment Disorder: now in Trauma and Stress-Related Disorders
  • Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Delirium:  Now in Neurocognitive Disorders
  • Autism, Asperger’s: now “Autistic Spectrum Disorder” and found in Neurodevelopmental Disorders
  • Bipolar Disorders, including Cyclothymic, now located in Bipolar and Related Disorders
  • Gambling Disorder: now in Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders
  • Mental Retardation:  now “Intellectual Disability” and found in Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder now has its own category, Obsessive Compulsive and Related Disorders
  • ODD: Now in Disruptive, Impulse Control, and Conduct Disorders
  • Adjustment Disorder can be found under trauma and stressor-related disorders
  • Abuse: can be found under Other Conditions that may be a focus of clinical attention. Choose Abuse and then one of the different types of abuse for adult or child.

In DSM-5, the term “dementia” has been eliminated and replaced with major or minor neurocognitive disorder. So now you can locate a crosswalk of the previous diagnosis of Dementia to Major or Mild Neurocognitive Disorder, which is located under Neurocognitive Disorders. Below is the exact location for your convenience:

  • Neurocognitive Disorders
  • Another Medical Condition – select one of the following:

A. Major Neurocognitive Disorder due to Another Medical Condition, with behavioral disturbance, 294.11 (F02.81)
B. Major Neurocognitive Disorder due to Another Medical Condition, without behavioral disturbance, 294.11 (F02.81)
C. Mild Neurocognitive Disorder due to Another Medical Condition, 331.83 (G31.84)
